«Kraina_info»: prompt informing of Ukrainians about the course of the war in Ukraine

With the beginning of a full-scale military invasion of russia on the territory of Ukraine, the team of the Institute of Cognitive Modeling began working 24/7 for Ukrainians and for an international audience. So that the world knows the truth about Russia’s war against Ukraine, so that Ukrainians, even in a state of war, have a foothold, and so that Russian propaganda fails daily on the information front.

In February 2022, the Viber community «Koronavirus_info», created 2 years ago to counteract the coronavirus pandemic, was transformed into a source of reliable information about the russian invasion «Kraina_info».

Currently, the «Kraina_info» Viber community is one of the largest verified communities.

Every day, the Viber community publishes up-to-date information from primary sources, infographics and instructions, results of national surveys, denial of russian fake news and warnings about air threats.

78% of Ukrainians believe Ukraine will win the war

As part of the information war, the Institute of Cognitive Modeling, together with the Social Monitoring Center and the First Rating System Agency, conducted a national survey on the political attitudes and emotional wellbeing of Ukrainians in war conditions. According to the results, almost 80% of Ukrainians believe in the victory of Ukraine.

ICM also united more than 100 Ukrainian opinion leaders and showbiz stars into a special «star battalion» in order to have a systematic communication about russia’s war against Ukraine.

Information Telegram channel «Ukraine NOW»

Due to Russia’s war against Ukraine, the team of Institute of Cognitive Modeling transformed the community «Coronavirus_info», created 2 years ago to fight the pandemic, into the cannel «Ukraine NOW».

At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the ICM carried out technical and informational coordination of the ‘Ukraine NOW’ channel with the Ministry of Digital Transformation to increase the effectiveness of countering Russian disinformation in Ukraine. Coordination cooperation was done on a volunteer basis.

The channel was recognised as the only non-institutionalised Telegram channel that fully adheres to the standard of credibility and has never distributed stories from Russian propaganda television. In addition, the Channel has become one of the three non-institutionalised Ukrainian Telegram channels that has public and clear owners.

In April 2022, together with the European Commission, the Institute for Cognitive Modeling launched the official channels of the European Union on support for Ukraine in Viber and Telegram named “EU Supports Ukraine”.

In March 2022, the Institute of Cognitive Modeling launched a telegram channel and a Viber community «URGENT!» for Ukrainians from the occupied and frontline territories.

Communication support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine

In October 2021, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and the Institute of Cognitive Modeling signed a memorandum of cooperation in the areas of digitalization, innovation, development of the digital economy and strategy for creating a digital Ukraine.

Details of cooperation: determination of the communication framework for the development of the «digital state»; identification of socio-psychological barriers among the population on the way of digitalization; development of communication tools to inform segmented audiences.

Based on all-Ukrainian sociological research, a communication strategy for the digital transformation reform of Ukraine was created and all the necessary consultations were provided on building the communication system of the Ministry. 

The Institute team participated in organizing three Diia summits — the main digital event in Ukraine with the participation of digital leaders and the president of Ukraine, as well as campaigns on cyber literacy and digital education.

All-Ukrainian campaign #ISupportDoctors

During the fight against the coronavirus disease, doctors were on the front line. They risked their health for the safety of millions of Ukrainians, saving patients 24/7.

To support doctors, the #ISupportDoctors (#Підтримуюлікарів) campaign was launched, the symbol of which was a red ribbon with a knot as the personification of unity and solidarity with Ukrainian doctors. The red ribbon unites Ukrainians and doctors in one help line.

Cartoons for children

PLUSPLUS Children’s TV channel and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine aired a cartoon with tips for children on how to behave during the coronavirus COVID-19 quarantine.
Together with the cartoon characters, Triangle, Quadric and Circle, children learn the ways to easily «arm themselves against the virus».

Chatbot

To provide up-to-date information about coronavirus disease verified by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, a special chatbot «Ivan Mask» was launched. In particular, through this chatbot, it was possible to find out morbidity statistics, updated information about quarantine restrictions, telephone hotlines where you can call directly from your smartphone, get advice on how to protect yourself, loved ones and how to act in different situations related to coronavirus infection, according to the protocols of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

During the cooperation between the Institute and the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Health information campaign was considerably strengthened. Ukrainians have become familiar with the ways to prevent viral infections.

*Based on the results of a panel sociological research «Coronavirus disease situation in Ukraine», conducted by Gradus. The respondents of the panel are Ukrainian citizens living in different districts and towns, with population over 50,000, aged 18-60. «Three waves» of research were conducted on February 2, March 7 and March 15, 2020. The field stage of the third wave lasted from March 15 to 16. Survey sampling – 873 respondents, response-rate – 47.8%. Survey form – online survey.
